About Sabar Capital

Sabar is a Malay word that means patience. At Sabar Capital, patience is the core philosophy that guides everything we do. In investing, patience allows us to look beyond short-term noise, focusing instead on the enduring strength of great businesses and the compounding power of time.

We believe that true value is created not in the pursuit of quick gains but through the disciplined pursuit of long-term growth. Patience teaches us to act with clarity, stay grounded during volatility, and embrace the journey of thoughtful decision-making.

Through this newsletter, we aim to share insights and perspectives that embody this philosophy, guiding you to approach investing with clarity and composure.

Our Approach

We differentiate ourselves by focusing on qualitative factors like economic moats and management integrity, rather than relying heavily on complex models, as is common on Wall Street. As the late Charlie Munger once said, “I’ve never seen Warren do a spreadsheet.” We believe that understanding a company’s competitive advantages and the quality of management provides a much clearer picture of its true potential than any model or formula could.

“Interestingly enough, although I consider myself to be primarily in the quantitative school, the really sensational ideas I have had over the years have been heavily weighted toward the qualitative side where I have had a ‘high-probability insight.’ This is what causes the cash register to really sing.

However, it is an infrequent occurrence, as insights usually are, and, of course, no insight is required on the quantitative side—the figures should hit you over the head with a baseball bat. So the really big money tends to be made by investors who are right on qualitative decisions but, at least in my opinion, the more sure money tends to be made on the obvious quantitative decisions.”
